Thy Germans Left Paris

Owing to the landing of fresh troops from England and the

troops advance of strong French/north of Paris, the right wing of the

German army had to withdraw from the line Amiens-Verdun in ----

such a way that it could not be outflanked. The German army then

occupied a strong position behind the river Aisne where an enor

mous and probably the decisive battle is being fought. As far

as the result can be foreseen, the battle will be favourable to

the German arms.

The German army had lost, up to September 14th, altogether

55,000 killed, wounded and prisoners. On the other hand, there

are now more than 500,000 prisoners in Germany, amongst them

about 9,000 British, 100,000 French, 150,000 Russians and 50,000

Belgiana.

The losses at sea, so far, are as follows: The British

flest has lost the amoured cruisers Monmouth (9550 tons) and

Warrior (18,750 tons), the cruisers Amphion (8,500 tons), Path-

finder (8,000 tons) and Amethyst (3,050 tons), the mine layer

Spider and several destroyers. The losses of the German navy

are the cruisers Magdeburg (4,550 tons), Mainz (4,850 toms),

Ariadna (2,650 tons), and Hela (2,650 tons) the submarine V. 15

and several torpedo boats.
